Foundation for Modular and Scalable Infrastructure

The client’s cloud journey started with setting up an AWS Landing Zone, a time-saving solution that establishes a secure and scalable environment for running workloads. This setup ensures seamless connectivity with existing on-premises environments through redundant VPN connections to the remaining network infrastructure. The Landing Zone is the cornerstone for cloud migration, addressing critical needs such as security, implementation speed, integration with existing infrastructure, cost control, and capacity to support digital transformation and migration requirements.

AWS Services Implementation

To deliver the Landing Zone and re-platforming services, we utilized a range of AWS services following best practices:

Amazon Aurora: This was deployed for MySQL and automates administrative tasks like hardware provisioning, database setup, patching, and backups.

Backup and Disaster Recovery: Automated backups of DB instances securely stored in Amazon S3 to ensure reliable backup and disaster recovery.

Amazon EC2 Linux Instances: Migrated open-source CentOS servers and COTS RedHat-based server applications, enabling quick scale capacity adjustments as computing requirements change.

Transit Gateway: Simplified network connectivity back to the on-premises network environment and facilitated the connection of new accounts being provisioned.

Implementation of DevOps and Smooth Migration

The solution was implemented using AWS DevOps tools, including CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline. The Landing Zone setup enabled the initial migration of over eight applications and provided a suitable environment for migrating on-premise MySQL databases to MySQL Aurora. This comprehensive migration work was completed in just 14 weeks, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of the implemented solution.
